Guided tour in english The forest within by Antti Laitinen

17.05.2026 13:00 - 13:45

Hämeenlinnan taidemuseo, Viipurintie 2, 13200 Hämeenlinna

On a guided tour, visitors explore the exhibition The forest within by Antti Laitinen with a guide.

For Antti Laitinen, art is a means to study human behaviour and the marks that behaviour leaves on our landscapes and on the natural world. Within the context of his own artworks, it is the artist himself who makes those marks. The forest represents for him a particularly important and inexhaustible repository of materials, resources and ideas. Alongside a selection of his earlier works, The Forest Within presents visitors with brand new photographs and installations by Laitinen.

Much of Antti Laitinen’s art is characterised by a playfully experimental energy; the desire to turn an impossible idea into reality. Everything from small shrubs and fully grown trees to an entire acre of woodland have been disassembled, manipulated, rebuilt and rearranged by the artist. He has meticulously recorded these processes with video and photography, but also made use of the opportunities presented to him by sculpture, installation, performance and environmental art.

Antti Laitinen (b. 1975, Raahe) is a photographer and visual artist. He studied at the Arts Academy in Turku and the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. His works have been shown extensively both in Finland and internationally. His most recent exhibition was held at EMMA, the Espoo Museum of Modern Art. He is one of the artists featured as part of the Climate Clock art trail, which will form part of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme.

The guided tour lasts 45 minutes and starts in the lobby of the Lohrmann Building.

The tour is included in the admission fee (€12 / €10). Free entry for visitors under 18, with the Museum Card, and with the Hämeenlinna City Museums annual pass.
