Elonkierto Nature and Animal Trail runs through a diverse rural landscape in Jokioinen. Along the trail, depending on the season, you can discover animals, crops, gardens and biodiversity, while also taking time to experience the wellbeing benefits of nature. There are rest areas and picnic spots along the way, as well as various activity and information points. Elonkierto is a free and open destination suitable for visitors of all ages.

Description

Elonkierto Nature and Animal Trail runs around the Elonkierto area and introduces visitors to rural nature, animals, crops and gardens. The trail is surfaced with gravel and is relatively easy to walk, and you can explore it at your own pace.

During the summer season, there are farm animals along the trail, including Finnish native cattle, horses and ponies, sheep, goats, Finnish landrace chickens and pigs. The animals stay at Elonkierto during the grazing season, approximately from the beginning of June until mid-September.

Along the way, you can explore crops, the vegetable garden, greenhouses, the edible forest garden and various sites showcasing biodiversity. Information boards provide information about nature, food production and the environment.

You can also stop along the trail to experience the wellbeing benefits of nature. For example, why not hug our 120-year-old pine tree?

There are benches and rest areas along the route, as well as several places where you can enjoy your own picnic. During the frost-free season, toilets are available, including an accessible toilet. The Makasiini Café is open during the summer season according to its opening hours – please check our website for current opening hours.

Admission to Elonkierto and the trail is free. You can explore the area independently.

Arrival

By car: Elonkierto is located in Jokioinen. Follow the signs to Elonkierto when approaching the area. Free parking is available. By public transport: You can travel by train to Humppila, a neighbouring municipality of Jokioinen, from the directions of Helsinki, Turku and Tampere. From Humppila and Forssa, you can continue by Jubilee Line bus, operated by Vekka Group, which takes you close to Elonkierto. The nearest bus stop when arriving from Humppila is Kirkko th E, and when arriving from Forssa it is Myllytie P. Timetables and ticket prices are available on the Matkahuolto website. From the bus stops, it is approximately 1.5 km to Elonkierto. You can walk either along the path on the southern side of the manor, which is slightly more difficult to navigate, or along the gravel road on the northern side. By bicycle: You can also reach Elonkierto by bicycle. By canoe or kayak: You can also reach Elonkierto by canoe or kayak. There is a jetty near the lean-to shelter. The Loimijoki Valley paddling routes are available on the Citynomadi platform.

It is possible to use the trail with a wheelchair with the assistance of another person. The trail surface consists mainly of sand and gravel, which can make moving along the trail more strenuous in places. There are also a few relatively steep hills. Wheelchair users are recommended to have an assistant. There is an accessible toilet by the Makasiini Café, which is available during the frost-free season.

There are no particular hearing-related barriers to using the trail. The trail can be explored independently, and information about the sites along the route is also available in written form on information boards.

The trail does not have signs or guiding structures specifically designed for people with visual impairments. Videos are available for some of the sites on Elonkierto's virtual map, where the information text is read aloud. People with visual impairments are recommended to explore the trail with an assistant.

The trail does not have signs or Easy Read information specifically designed for people with intellectual disabilities. The trail is clearly laid out and can be explored at your own pace. The need for support when moving along the trail and exploring the different sites is individual.
