More information

Follow the Little Lynx through the bends of the Renkajoki river, the lush conifers of the arboretum, and the open heritage landscapes of Rautavuori. Along the way, you will find fun activity stations for the whole family, a wilderness shelter and several rest stops.

Description

Starting Point and Leafy Forest You will recognise the trail gate by two yellow Little Lynx route posts, accompanied by an information board and insect hotels. The trail begins on a narrow forest path descending to a stream, where the first rest bench sits in a lush, leafy woodland setting. Cross the stream via a small bridge and continue up on boardwalks and steps – at the top of the stairs, a wooden xylophone awaits.

Renkajoki Riverbank A crushed stone path leads to a platform with an accessible picnic table and views over the Renkajoki river. From here, stairs descend to the riverbank, where you can fish or simply sit and watch the water flow.

Labyrinth and Arboretum The path joins a recreational trail and forks: to the left, the route climbs toward the arboretum; to the right lies a forest labyrinth that loops back to the same junction. Continue from the junction toward the arboretum, where you will find a picnic table and two activity stations.

Rautavuori The trail climbs steeply along a forest path (gradient up to 25% in places) past a disc golf area to the top of Rautavuori. The wilderness shelter here has a fire pit, a dry toilet and a firewood storage – a great spot for a longer break or an overnight stay.

Return Along the Ridges From the shelter, the trail descends (max. 14%) and winds along a narrow needle-covered path to the edge of a sports field. The route crosses a road without a pedestrian crossing – take care here. The final stretch follows a pavement and crushed stone path back to the starting gate.

The trail is accessible by local bus from Hämeenlinna city centre. Stop: Rastaanpolku. Check timetables in the Hämeenlinna public transport journey planner.
