Elves of Torronsuo

Join us to hear Daria Kalevidoughter´s stories about the history of Torronsuo and its former inhabitants.
This largest oasis swamp area in Southern Finland in Torronsuo National Park is about 8,500 years old. A swamp this old has many stories to tell, but it needs an interpreter for its words so that we can understand.
The Elves of Torronsuo tour takes its travelers to the mystical nature of the marsh and Häme to the bygone era, old customs and natural beliefs on the journey of a woman scientist for the whole day.
The trip will introduce you to the thousands of years old history of Finland’s deepest oasis swamp, Hämeen Härkätie trade routes and trade customs, as well as centuries-old ways of life and the essence of living. We will also reflect on recent life in the swamp and the life of the surrounding villages, as well as the influence of history during a leisurely six-hour vacation.
Do you happen to know what was the most valuable trade item in Häme almost a thousand years ago or for what purposes the plant treasure trove of the swamp was used. After this trip, you’ve greeted Tapio, dived into a swamp and reached into a pine tree.
At the end of the trip, we enjoy spruce bud -spiced root vegetables and meat stew with side dishes in the shelter by the campfire and talk about thoughts and moods. From the nature tower, you can admire the enormity of the bog with a steaming cup of coffee.
