Teatterihotelli Riihimäki x Mafka & Alakoski present: Night of the Arts – September 11th
To celebrate the Night of the Arts, Teatterihotelli and the Mafka & Alakoski glass studio are hosting a joint event in the old glass factory area, right next to the studio at Lasitehtaanaukio 2!
A fantastic lineup of events awaits:
16:30 Outdoor terrace opens
18:00 “Carnaval do Brasil” samba performance by dance troupe Grupo Luminoso
Crafts for children
Non-stop glassblowing at the studio
20:00 “Danças Latinas” dance performance by dance troupe Grupo Luminoso
21:00 Performance by Katri Oikarinen
22:00 Glassblowing demonstration: Master Glassblower Kari Alakoski
23:00 Terrace closes
During the glassblowing demonstrations, you can blow your own glass bauble for €50 – no appointment needed!
The outdoor terrace is open throughout the event, offering refreshments, whole-roasted pig, and traditional griddle pancakes (gluten-free options available), served with Master Glassblower Gooseberry Jam and whipped cream! Bar service available.
But that’s not all – there is also plenty happening at the Teatterihotelli (Hämeenaukio 1):
Selected meeting rooms are open to the public: come and be among the first to explore the newly renovated spaces, where you step directly into a curated glass art gallery! Works by Master Glassblower Kari Alakoski and sculptor Maija Helasvuo are on display.
The hotel also features Hepo-aho’s magnificent, giant glass chair sculpture Syli (“Embrace”) – snap a photo with it and enter a prize draw!
In the Viena meeting room, located at the hotel lobby, there is a rotating mini-exhibition featuring “crown jewels” from the Riihimäen Lasi – pieces from the private collection of glass artisan Juha Juselius. These rare collector’s items, with a focus on lead crystal, represent a unique chapter in the history of Finnish craftsmanship and glassmaking. The display also includes pieces from Juselius’s own work – be sure to check it out before the exhibition changes soon!
Riihimäen teatteri, located right next to the hotel lobby, also has a fascinating program lined up, and naturally, the lobby bar is offering drink specials on-site!
…but that’s not all:
A Treasure Trail leads from the hotel/theatre to the Mafka & Alakoski glass studio, and you might just find treasures along the way! Great prizes await those who make a discovery, and you can start the treasure hunt either at the hotel/theatre heading toward the studio, or vice versa.
