Discover the first twenty years of famous composers life in the Birthplace of Jean Sibelius!
Birthplace of Jean Sibelius is a house museum and a concert hall that is a part of Hämeenlinna City Museum and like the other two locations, Museum Skogster and Palander House, it is also situated in the heart of Hämeenlinna City Centre.
Composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) was born and lived the first 20 years of his life in Hämeenlinna. In the Birthplace of Jean Sibelius you will experience the early years of the maestro from when he was born in 1865 to when in his twenties he moved to Helsinki to study.
The museum exhibits original items that belonged or were made by little “Janne” and his nearest people. Such as letters, drawings, travel-piano, handicrafts from his grandmother and aunt. Museum is furnished according the era from 1860s to 1880s. We hold chamber concerts regularly in the hall.
We are closed on 1.1., 1.5., 6.12., 23.–26.12.
Also year 2024 we are closed on Good Friday 29.3. and Midsummers 21.–23.6.
