The Naivists in Iittala exhibition, located in the Glass Centre at the heart of Iittala, is one of Finland’s most renowned and long-standing showcases of naive art.
Founded in 1989 in Iittala’s old wooden school, the exhibition has evolved into the largest and most diverse center for naive art in the country.
The exhibition highlights the works of Finnish artists, telling stories of everyday life and Finnish nature with humor and warmth. The world of naivism is colorful, expressive, and easily approachable. Contemporary naivism is characterized by sincerity and authenticity, blending narrative and imagination. The storytelling is often autobiographical, rich in color and detail. The overall atmosphere is playful and optimistic, though social critique occasionally finds its place.
The summer exhibitions showcase new works by around fifty contemporary artists, attracting over 21,000 visitors annually. Open daily from mid-May to the end of August, they offer an unforgettable experience.
The winter exhibitions focus on the history of naïvism and explore new themes. Visitors can also enjoy art workshops, courses, and concerts. The winter exhibition is open on weekends from November to March and by appointment on weekdays for groups.
Our lobby shop offers a variety of art, art supplies, home decor items, books, and postcards.
The exhibition provides a peaceful setting to enjoy art and is suitable for visitors of all ages. With our convenient location near Helsinki (approximately 1 hour away), we are an excellent destination for a day trip.
